Safe and clean open south-facing 2.5 km sandy beach. Best on mid tide but works on all and can get hollow. Has a rivermouth on the side that can create strong rips. Lifeguarded in July and August.

Clonea Strand is situated in a sheltered inlet that can be very good with nice flat water when the wind is very strong. Very good for slalom sailing in nearly all wind directions. Dungarvan Bay hosted the final stage of the World Production Speed Sailing Cup in 2008.
