Surfing in Brandon Bay

A beautiful long sandy Blue flagged beach. Many wind and swell options along the curved bay. Bigger waves towards the Magharees and smaller towards Kilcummen. Mossies reef and Garry William Point for experienced only.

Garrywilliam Point: Sizable right tubes on its best days with NW swells and light E winds. No surfing on low tide due to a rocky reef. Very experienced surfers only.

Mossies: Situated opposite Spillanes Bar, Mossies is described as one of the best surfing waves in Europe. The peak breaks left to right, and picks up any direction of swell (best at NW). It is a long paddle out; for easier access enter from Garrywilliam Point. Watch out for the rocky reef during low tide.

Dumps: Located by a gap in the sand dunes, half way between Sandy Bay and Fahamore. It is west facing so off shore winds at E. The best waves are at NW, low to mid tide, with potential for small barrels. Watch out during high tide as it reaches the rocks.

Stoney Gap: Situated between the two Sandy bay caravan parks on the Brandon bay side. Off shore winds are E to SE, best at mid tide, ok at low tide. It is good in NW in a small swell but can get dangerous in a big swell.

Stradbally: Half way along Brandon Bay, Stradbally beach is located 200m from Stradbally golf course. This beach works best on NW swells. Peaks of the waves move around as the tide approaches or drops.

Gowlane: 500m from Stradbally this is a similar beach break, being a long sandy beach the peaks tend to shift after large swells. High tide encourages the wave to break close to the shore giving more shape and power and less duck dives. Best at mid to high tide with S winds.

Fermoyle: Generally smaller waves in this end of the bay, accommodating for all levels of surfers.

Sandy Bay on the other side of Brandon Bay (opposite Stoney Gap) is sheltered and ideal for beginners.

Loads and loads of options here. Wind at different angles all around the bay. Changeable often, but the setting and wildlife is like nothing i've ever seen. Some decent sets hold up well, but be quick to get up in front of it as paddle can be annoying if your stuck inside.

Love surfing in Brandon bay. The surf is great, can move to different areas around dingle depending on wind direction and the dingle peninsula is an amazing place to visit
